I consider myself a conservative. Not a Conservative.
I believe in the conservation of our resources, our human resources, natural resources, political resources, economic resources, and find sustainable solutions for all of these. I consider America the laboratory of the world, the template of the world, the guidance counselor to the world. Which is why I could never support Republican obstructions to progress, innovation, knowledge, learning, education, and discovery. I could never support the Republican Party's insistence on THEIR values and definition of family, individuality and choice, over MY individual values and definition of family, individuality and choice. Or the values and definitions of anyone else.
My particular values are simple. I have my own views and as long as they don't impose on anyone else, I expect to be left alone. I expect that political parties, government entities and business enterprises do what they want, and as much as they can, but impose on me as little as possible. If they don't support me, I don't support them. How difficult can this be? I don't know why everyone tortures themselves over decisions. It isn't difficult.
Government, although I don't like it, is necessary. If I can be responsible to myself and others, it is less needed. If I can't be responsible, or someone else can't be responsible, I have no issue with government serving to impose a measure of responsibility. It is our choice as individuals that makes the social institution of government necessary. Obviously we can't control ourselves.
I don't drink. But I don't want someone else to drink, drive and kill someone. So I have no issue with laws against that.
I don't pollute. But I have no issue with laws that prevent companies or individuals or governments from doing that. Again, I am a conservative.
So for years, I have not understood WHY anyone would support the Republican Party unless they were a billionaire who didn't care about anyone else. I notice the billionaires that DO care, are supporting someone else - in this case, Democrats.
